Unlike with last year's iPhone 13 color drop, Apple did not announce a new version of the iPhone SE. In-person the yellow has a soft pastel tone. In fact, we are halfway through the iPhone's annual upgrade cycle, with the rumored iPhone 15 expected to launch in September. It runs iOS 16, has an A15 Bionic chip, Emergency SOS via Satellite, Car Crash Detection and cameras similar to those of the iPhone 13 Pro (aside from the telephoto). While the new finish is exciting, the yellow iPhone 14 is identical to the models that launched in September. The new yellow has a soft, pastel tone to it. If you follow Apple closely, you know that the old rainbow Apple logo was made up of six colors. There are now six colors to choose from: yellow, purple, blue, starlight, midnight and Product Red. Sadly, Apple decided to leave the Pro models out of the new color party. Last spring, we got a green iPhone 13 and an alpine green iPhone 13 Pro. As has been the case for the past few years, Apple dropped a new color for the iPhone in March.

So, if you want to ensure you continue to receive long-term support, then you should pick up one of those phones (which are roughly the same price as the 6 and 6 Plus).Apple reminds us that spring is around the corner with a new color for iPhone 14 and 14 Plus: yellow. The oldest devices to be supported by iOS 15 are the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. However, since the device is on extended support, you can’t count on Apple to continue releasing updates. Patches have continued to be released for iOS 12, and the latest version, 12.5.5, came out on September 23, 2021. However, even though iOS 13 launched in 2019, the iPhone 6 didn’t stop receiving updates. The last version of iOS to support the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is iOS 12.

It does have LTE, so it can still easily make phone calls and connect to the internet, and if it gets broken or lost, you’re only out $100-150. For a kid’s first phone, it’s incredibly affordable. However, there is one circumstance where it might be perfect. It also lacks 5G, has a slower dual-core CPU, and will underperform when it comes to running modern apps. For example, it only has 1 GB of LPDDR3 RAM compared to the 6 GB of LPDDR4X found in the iPhone 13 Pro. Spec-wise, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are antiquated.
